Orientation — What This Is
The Gable Bench is a loose community of local business owners, contractors, and longtime residents who share information about who does good work around here. Membership isn't formal — there's no application and no fee. It's simply a matter of being part of the conversation: the people we know, the businesses we trust, and the recommendations we pass along when someone asks for help. We've been doing this since 2013, writing down what we learn so people can benefit from our experience whether they live here full-time or are new to the area.
Being part of this community means you get access to honest opinions about local services, recommendations that come from people who've actually hired these contractors and businesses, and a network of people who think the same way you do about supporting quality work over brand recognition. The site is free, and we don't sell anything or take commissions.
The Detail
When you're part of this community, you can follow our newsletter for regular updates about local programs, new recommendations, and what we've learned recently. You get access to our resource library — guides to evaluating contractors, checklists for common projects, and the history of what we've found to work. You can contribute your own experience: tell us about a business you've used, share what you learned from hiring someone, or point us toward a service that deserves attention.
Members also get early notice of what we're researching next, a chance to shape which topics and contractors we investigate, and direct access to our growing network of people who care about supporting genuinely good work in this community.
